Julie Traynor P1 on Wonder by R.J. Palacio

wonder_cover_art

Wonder is a fantastic book that canย changeย minds and hearts. The book is about a young boy named August who has a deformed face. In the novel we see different sides to the story. Via, Augusts sister, is always by his side and stands up for him whenever she can. But when she and August start school they’re both thrown in to new complications. At first August is an outcast the “weird” kid in school, but he quickly makes friends with a young girl named summer, and a boy called Jack. Who stick by his side against the stares, the rumours and the name calling.ย The book has its ups and it’s downsย but by the time you are finished you see the world differently and you see people differently. This book teaches us compassion, understanding and of course, that it is good to poke fun at yourself sometimes.

I give this book 5 stars ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ

Sarah Hyland L2 on A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness

a_monster_calls

This book is a fantastic and heartbreaking story about a boy who has nightmares every night ever since his mother fell ill, and the treatments don’t seem to be working. But then he meets a monster in his dreams who tells him stories, and the monster wants the most dangerous thing of all, it wants the truth.ย  This book will break your heart once you read it.

I give this book five stars ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ

Grรกinne Butler C2 on The lord of the Flies by William Golding

This book is amazing, it’s about how boys land on a island and have to try and survive without adults. How will they get food? How will they stay warm? I could not believe at the end how the boys could turn into savages and it shocked me how the boys acted towards each other. I really loved the book. I would give it five stars

Mia Kenny P2 on The Outsiders

This book is about the main character Ponyboy, who tells us the difference between the Socs and the Greasers. The Socs have advantages in society like education, money and a stable home.ย  I like the characters in The Outsiders, the one I like most is Darry because heย doesn’tย just of himself. He has given up college and works two jobs to keep the family together. this shows he is a very caring person.

4 out of five stars ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ

COMPETITION TIME!

Starting from today the library is running a monthly book review competition

All you have to do is write a short review of a book you have read.
The best review each month will receive a โ‚ฌ10 book voucher! ๐Ÿ’ฒ๐Ÿ’ฐ๐Ÿ“š ๐Ÿ“–๐Ÿ˜
The winner, along with runners up will be posted here on the Google Classroom page.

How to enter

Give the book a star rating (out of five stars) along with a short review. ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ

It can be a book which you have recently read, a favourite book, or a book you were looking forward to reading but may have been disappointed by.

The winner will not be based on the star review, for example you could give it a low star rating because you were disappointed by it, but as long as the review itself is well done it will be in with a chance of winning.

Email the review toย librarian@olschool.ieย by the deadline each month. This month’s deadline is Thursday 26th November.

You can enter every month if you wish.
